At the 1893 World’s Fair: The Columbian Exposition, they had exhibits on everything and anything!
In the picture above one can see the Ostrich Farm Exhibit. The Ostriches were from the Cape Colony in South Africa, where they collected and sold the feathers. Six men could get 150 ostriches clipped in one day.
Many people had never seen ostriches before this exhibit. Ostriches do not fly, however they can run about 43 miles or 70 kilometers per hour. They can stand from 7 feet to 9 feet tall!
That's a big bird.
